Millions of American lives are ruined by drugs. It’s time to call this a national crisis and epidemic. Drug addiction has led to a series of problems, including the flow of billions of dollars abroad supporting drug cartels, criminal gangs, homelessness, and deeply corrupt governments in central America. It is a principal cause of illegal immigration and homelessness for millions of people, who are on the streets because they are unable to function or work.

It’s also time to address this as a crisis of foreign policy. Drug gangs and criminal-infested governments in Central America, Venezuela and Mexico receive many billions of dollars of funding from drug addicts in America.

Altogether it is obvious that solutions include the building a national system of rehabilitation and mental health counseling facilities. Naturally resources fall well short of what is needed. 

What is not obvious to our leaders is that this is a comprehensive crisis of homelessness, foreign policy and illegal immigration. All the billions of dollars paid for drugs go to drug cartels, criminal gangs, and criminal elements in central America. Central America is where millions of migrant flow from. They come here and become homeless. 

The idea is everything is tied together and drug addiction is at the rotting root. It is a crisis for millions of people - American drug addicts and millions of immigrants escaping the toxic harms to their countries of origin.

Rehabilitation and mental health counseling are a central part of the solution - certainly a good place to start. Let’s provide necessary funding.
