We must act to end disgusting hate crimes. Criminalize cyber bullying and online hate speech: arrest anyone threatening harm online like any assault charge. Grant police and the FBI the authority, by court warrant of course in compliance with 4th amendment rights, to get from social media firms names and addresses of those who cowardly threaten others online behind the scrim of anonymity.
Further, enact nationwide legislation that requires anyone signing onto a social media site to provide a verified name and address where they live - the point being to make them accountable for anything dangerous they say or threaten.
Provide better police protection for synagogues. Confront anti-Semitism and Holocaust deniers. The Nazis murdered half of my family during the reign of terror in Germany. My family came here to escape anti-Semitism. Now we see a resurgence.
When it comes to racism, an attack on one is an attack on all: African American, Hispanic, Jew, and Asian descent. Standing up to hate and racism means speaking out and not letting cowards get away with dangerous words in public and online.... especially in schools. I am a teacher. My job is to teach in the classroom... not express my political views. Social media, Twitter/X, Facebook: that is where we practice free speech. Not in the school room.
When people are threatened online, physical threat and fearful words should be treated as legal assault. Whether threats are made in person or social media, the person placing someone in fear should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law as having committed assault.
FGG proposes enforcement and legislation with teeth that protect everyone - Jewish, African American, Hispanic, Asian American, etc. - from online threats and fear.
